Position Overview

Seeking an experienced Security Guard Supervisor (Guard II) to oversee security operations supporting the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) San Diego Healthcare System. The Supervisor will provide field-level leadership, personnel oversight, scheduling support, quality assurance monitoring, and operational coordination for security personnel assigned throughout the VA Medical Center and Community Based Outpatient Clinics (CBOCs).

This position serves as the primary on-site management representative and is responsible for ensuring contract compliance, maintaining staffing continuity, and supporting a safe and secure environment for Veterans, visitors, and VA personnel.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise and coordinate daily activities of assigned security personnel.
  • Conduct site visits and inspections at assigned VA facilities.
  • Ensure all security posts are staffed and operational during required hours.
  • Provide immediate response and coordination for staffing shortages, call-offs, and emergencies.
  • Monitor employee performance and ensure adherence to post orders, company policies, and contract requirements.
  • Conduct employee orientations and site familiarization activities.
  • Review daily activity reports, incident reports, and security documentation for accuracy and completeness.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact between security personnel, company management, and Government representatives.
  • Attend meetings with VA representatives when requested.
  • Investigate and document incidents, employee concerns, and operational issues.
  • Coordinate training, credentialing, and onboarding requirements for security personnel.
  • Maintain staffing schedules and ensure adequate relief coverage.
  • Support emergency response activities and coordinate resources during critical incidents.
  • Perform security officer duties when necessary to address unexpected staffing shortages.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Minimum five (5) years of experience in security, military, law enforcement, corrections, or related public safety field.
  • Minimum two (2) years of supervisory or leadership experience.
  • Ability to pass a federal background investigation.
  • No felony convictions.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in preparing reports, maintaining records, and using standard office software.
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.

Preferred Qualifications

  • California BSIS Guard Card.
  • Prior supervisory experience on government or healthcare security contracts.
  • Military leadership experience.
  • Experience managing multi-site security operations.
  • CPR/First Aid certification.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to walk and stand for extended periods.
  • Ability to travel between multiple work locations throughout San Diego County.
  • Ability to respond to emergencies and incidents at various facilities.
  • Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying conditions.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds.

Work Schedule

  • Monday through Friday.
  • Full-time position.
  • Occasional early morning, evening, or weekend response may be required for operational needs.
  • Must be available for emergency call-back and staffing support.
