Our offices are open Monday-Friday 8am-5pm.
You may need to work a little earlier/later as needed.
SUMMARY
The primary goal of a scribe is to increase the efficiency and productivity of the physician they are working with, allowing the doctor to focus on the patient.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Accurately and thoroughly document medical visits and procedures as they are performed.
Operate the Electronic Medical Records (EMR) of patients.
Demonstrate a basic understanding of examination and procedure codes (ICD‑9) when inputting into the EMR system.
Ensure accurate procedure coding/charges for all procedures/drugs and correct diagnosis codes are used.
Anticipate physician needs to facilitate clinic flow.
Open and close exam rooms as needed.
Assist with testing and keep rooms filled to maintain flow.
Act discreetly, tactfully, and modestly to avoid distracting medical staff.
Have good judgment, organization, attention to detail, and be self‑motivated.
Be willing to travel between offices.
Perform other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
Working knowledge of medical terminology and accepted abbreviations.
Efficient in using EMR and ability to accurately record information.
Good typing, spelling, grammar and oral communication skills.
Communication skills and ability to coordinate and cooperate with multiple members of the health‑care team.
Organizational skills with focus on tracking patient care and improving patient flow.
Comply with HIPAA confidentiality standards when communicating patient information.
Provide excellent patient care and be energetic and empathetic with patients.
Consistently display positive rapport with fellow employees.
Cooperate with supervisory staff and physicians.
Demonstrate flexibility in job assignment.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
Minimum Required: High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
Minimum Required: One year of related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
LICENSES AND CREDENTIALS
Ophthalmic Scribe Certification (OSC) is preferred but not required.
SYSTEMS AND TECHNOLOGY
Proficient keyboarding skills and use of EMR and image management system.
Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook.
Computer proficiency and ability to quickly learn new applications.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Require frequent walking (75%), sitting (50%), standing (50%), with regular bending, stooping, and reaching (25‑50%). Must lift, carry, push, and pull items up to 25 lb. Strong fine motor skills and full use of hands essential for continuous grasping, writing/typing, and technology use.
Visual and auditory acuity—including color, depth, peripheral vision, and ability to adjust focus—required 100% of the time.
Occasional driving or climbing may also be necessary.
