Principal Duties and Responsibilities

Mercy, a Catholic, college-preparatory high school dedicated to empowering young women through faith, academic excellence, and leadership, seeks a passionate and collaborative English Teacher. The ideal candidate will inspire a love of reading and writing, foster critical thinking, and support the mission of Catholic education while creating a positive, engaging classroom environment for young women.

Requirements

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
● Teach English courses in literature and composition at the high school level
● Develop and implement engaging lesson plans aligned to curriculum standards
● Assess student learning and provide timely feedback
● Foster strong reading, writing, speaking, and critical thinking skills
● Create a classroom culture that supports the academic and personal growth of young women
● Collaborate with colleagues in curriculum development and interdisciplinary learning
● Communicate effectively with students, parents, and school staff
● Participate in school activities, meetings, and professional development
● Support and uphold the Catholic mission and values of the school
● Passion for working in an all-girls learning environment
● Ability to integrate faith, values, and character development into instruction
● Willingness to contribute to the broader school community through clubs, activities, or coaching

Education and Experience
● Bachelor’s degree in English, Education, or related field
● Valid state teaching certification (or ability to obtain certification)
● Commitment to the mission of Catholic education
● Strong classroom management and communication skills
● Ability to build positive relationships with students and families
● Experience teaching high school English preferred
● Coaching opportunities available
