About Us

Organizing Resilience (OR) coordinates national and local expertise to develop the tools, talent, and networks that will allow movement organizations, the philanthropic community, and government leaders to respond to the humanitarian and political crises that unfold during and after moments of disaster. By pre-building key aspects of disaster response and networks across regions and sectors before crises surface OR connects resources to on-the-ground leaders where they will have an immediate and lasting impact. Organizing Resilience is a sponsored project of the Amalgamated Charitable Foundation.

 

Job Overview

As a member of Organizing Resilience’s New Organizing Team, the Director of National Leadership Programs is responsible for building the organizing capacity of the new disaster survivors organization and its leaders through training, leadership development of survivors, base building, and strategy creation.

 

The Director should bring a deep understanding of transformative organizing, a commitment to building authentic member leadership, and a demonstrated ability to apply the understanding to develop meaningful and scalable training series, learning, and engagement opportunities. The ideal candidate is able to cultivate, develop and maintain deep and trusted relationships with survivor leaders from a diverse set of backgrounds and geographies. 

 

Responsibilities

Training:

  • Develop member leadership development strategy rooted in the organization's vision and broader strategic intervention
  • Develop, implement, and deliver training series and curriculum and conduct trainings and political education for survivors
  • Manage recruitment and high level logistics for survivor trainings, including liaising with the operations manager for in-person trainings, and ensuring all the technical and survivors experience considerations are attended to 
  • Lead recruitment and training of trainers, which could include staff, consultants, and volunteers
  • Engage survivors in leading and participating in trainings
  • Rigorously assess and continually improve the curriculum and training program

Leadership Development:

  • Identify and cultivate survivor leaders, with strong attunement to who is ready to step into greater responsibility within the member leadership structure
  • Find opportunities for leadership and participation of top leaders and members in national spaces both within the organization and externally
  • Cultivate survivor leaders as part of a the base-building program in key chapters

New Disaster Survivors Organization:

  • Participate alongside the New Organizing Team and broader Organizing Resilience team to shape the strategy, narrative, structure, culture, and organizing model for the emerging disaster survivors organization
  • Prepare for and support recruitment, curriculum development, facilitation, and planning for all new organizing national membership meetings, including, but not limited to the logistical planning and support, meeting and agenda preparation, and any necessary follow up. 
  • Research, build, and maintain the internal systems and infrastructures for effective and supported national survivor leadership within the organization. 
  • Facilitate and support survivor leaders in applying their leadership externally in a variety of methods including, but not limited to public speaking support and general development of leadership skills. 

Rapid Response Support:

  • Support coordination of boots-on-the-ground deployment and virtual rapid response efforts in key moments during and beyond storm season

Leadership and Team Managemen t:

  • Manage and mentor a team of trainers, curriculum developers, which could include volunteers and/or consultants.
  • Contribute to a culture of continuous learning and growth within Organizing Resilience.
  • Participate in Organizing Resilience’s cross-team strategy meetings and help sharpen the strategy and execution of the organization’s broader vision
  • Supervisory duties as necessary in alignment with Organizing Resilience and AUM+’s values

External Partnerships

  • Manage relationships with a set of external partners and stakeholders in alignment with Organizing Resilience mission and values. 
  • Develop methods for feedback and learning and socialize lessons from the training and leadership development program with partner organizations.
  • Engage external partners to develop feedback loops, apply feedback to continually improve the organization’s strategy

Qualifications:

  • 5-10 years of experience in organizing, leadership development, training, and campaigning
  • Proven experience in curriculum design and adult learning pedagogies 
  • Excellent communication skills across multiple medium and audiences
  • Ability to develop and maintain deep and trusted relationships with a variety of stakeholders
  • Demonstrated storyteller with an ability to bring narrative into engaging trainings
  • Ability to adapt and learn new technology or systems
  • Demonstrated dedication to collaboration and gaining stakeholder buy in
  • Experience managing teams and leading staff or volunteer development programs
  • Deep commitment to social, racial, and economic justice
  • Excellent facilitation and public speaking skills, with the ability to engage diverse audiences
  • Strong strategic planning skills, with the ability to connect training to a larger vision
  • Strong interpersonal skills, ability to collaborate across teams, and high emotional intelligence
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple projects
  • Ability to travel nationally

Salary, Benefits, Location, and Eligibility

  • The starting salary for this position is $150,000  commensurate  with experience.
  • Benefits, including 100% employer paid medical, dental, and vision plans, generous paid time off, remote work stipend, and matching retirement benefit. 
  • This position is housed within Assets Under Movement, the fiscal sponsor to the Organizing Resilience Fund.
  • This opportunity is a remote position open to all candidates eligible to work in the United States and able to work in the U.S. Eastern Time Zone.

Travel Requirements
This role requires domestic travel of approximately 25% (one week per month) to support the duties of this position.
