Construction Superintendent

Location: Chesapeake, VA (Onsite)

Compensation: $70,000 – $110,000

Overview

The Construction Superintendent is responsible for overseeing daily job site operations to ensure subcontractors perform according to contract requirements while maintaining project budgets, schedules, and quality standards. This role serves as the primary point of contact on-site and plays a critical role in coordinating all field activities.

This is a hands-on leadership role within a people-first organization, offering the opportunity to work across multiple projects and collaborate with internal teams, subcontractors, and municipal stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

• Oversee daily construction site operations, ensuring adherence to project plans, schedules, and budgets
• Review plans and specifications, identifying and reporting discrepancies to the project manager
• Coordinate subcontractors, utilities, inspectors, and municipal stakeholders
• Conduct preconstruction meetings and weekly on-site project meetings
• Maintain daily logs, reports, and schedule updates
• Coordinate material deliveries and job site logistics
• Monitor subcontractor performance, inspections, and testing
• Ensure compliance with OSHA safety standards and company policies
• Manage erosion control, site cleanliness, and environmental requirements
• Track and process change orders, haul tickets, and project documentation
• Oversee project closeout processes including punch lists, inspections, and as-built documentation

Qualifications

• Minimum 7+ years of construction experience , preferably as a Superintendent with a general contractor
• Strong background in commercial construction and site development projects
• Experience working with subcontractors, inspectors, and municipal agencies
• Proficiency in project scheduling, budgeting, and estimating
• Strong understanding of building codes, OSHA regulations, and construction standards
• Ability to read and interpret drawings, specifications, and plans
• Proficient in Microsoft Office and project management tools
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
• Stable work history required

Work Environment & Requirements

• Onsite role (no hybrid flexibility)
• Standard hours: ~8:00 AM – 5:00 PM
• No travel required
• Must pass background check and drug screening

Compensation & Benefits

• Salary: $70,000 – $110,000
• Health insurance (50% covered, 100% after 2 years)
• 401(k) with 4% match
• PTO:
  • 3 weeks (1–4 years)
  • 4 weeks (4+ years)
  • 5 weeks (10+ years)
• 8 paid holidays + floating days
• Flexible holiday schedule (late December)
